It’s time for another TOP 5 WEDNESDAY. This weekly meme is created by Lainey of Ginger Reads Lainey and with its new host, Sam of Thoughts on Tomes . You can check out the weekly topics on the Top 5 Wednesday – Goodreads Page. For this week’s topic: Characters I Defend. I’m going to mention the characters that I love and no matter what, I’m going to defend him/her to anyone.

Let’s Begin:

  • Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson – No one wants to mess up with Lisbeth. My all time favorite heroine. She’s a badass hacker who hates misogynists.  Hurt her, she’ll do worse. I love her very much.
  • Sydney Sage from Bloodlines by Richelle Mead – She may not be as badass as Rosemary Hathaway (Vampire Academy) but Sydney excels on being smarter and less reckless. I love how she thinks before she acts but when provoked, she can be dangerous.
  • Joe Goldberg from You by Caroline Kepnes – I love Joe. He’s one of the most interesting characters I’ve ever encountered. His actions are evil and I get it. This guy is just longing for love but no one gives it to him. I can’t really hate him.
  • The main characters of In the Company of Killers series by J.A. Redmerski – That includes Izabel Seyfried, Victor Faust, Fredrik Gustavsson, Niklas Fleischer, Nora Kessler, and Seraphina Bragado – ASSASSIN SQUAD GOALS! All of them are complex, badass and have twisted stories.
  • Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky – Some people say he’s overly dramatic. No, he’s one of the characters that most people can relate to, including myself.

  1. When we first met Sydney in Blood Promise, and even in the first book of Bloodlines, I definitely would’ve agreed with you. But I think that through the series she lost the essence of who she really was. EVERYTHING she did, was about Adrian. She made a lot of stupid decisions because of Adrian. At the end of the story she ended up being a mother and a wife. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that, but she wanted to do so much with her life, but now she is just stuck. She doesn’t have to be like Rose to be a strong character, but because she wanted to be with a man, she lost her way.

    I totally agree with what you said about Charlie. What gets me is that people hate on him, but he has a mental illness. He can’t help the way he is!

    1. The thing with Sydney wanting a more simple life, she’d live by thhe rules and follow the norms. Not that she is stuck, there is nothing wrong living with a simple life and having a family. Breaking the rules made her strong even if there are consequences.

      1. I definitely don’t think there is anything wrong with living a simple life, but that’s not what Sydney wanted. She wanted to go to school, and yeah, it’s great that she’s getting to do that, but she also wanted to travel the world, and it doesn’t look like she will be doing that anytime soon. If not for Adrian, I don’t think Sydney would have ever made that decision (to be a mother and live the “simple life”). Sydney has always been independent and an individual thinker, even when she was an alchemist, she knew what she wanted. But that all went to hell when Adrian came along. It’s like they now share one brain…But, that’s just my opinion. Thanks for the reply! 🙂

      2. You’re welcome! I understand your point about it. I guess Sydney came to a point in her life she wants to settle down.. I think she can do the things that she wanted in the future (she’ll definitely figure it out how.) and Adrian is pretty much understanding. He’ll support her and respect what she wants to do. [just my opinion] Or maybe he’ll encourage her to do it.

  3. Umm, I don’t think you really understand what she is trying to say. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live a simple life, but I agree, I do not think that Sydney would have made that decision on her own if not for Adrian. I feel like maybe you and I are not talking about the same Adrian. Despite everything the two of them have been through together, he is still VERY immature and if he really wanted to support Sydney and give her what she wanted in life ie TRAVELLING and not being holed up in some rental home in Maine, he would have never put her in this Betty Crocker stay at home lifestyle. But at the end of the day, it is all on Sydney, she proved that she wasn’t as strong as I thought she was during VA and in Bloodlines #1 because she dropped her hopes and dreams for Lord Petty Ivashkov.

    1. I respect your opinion and I guess we have our different views about Sydney. Just because she settled down doesn’t mean she gave up her and hopes. She can ALWAYS go back to that in the future and like you said, it’s still on Sydney. I respect her choice to be with Ivashkov. I don’t think he is immature in Bloodlines series. He actually improved from VA series.
