Exploring Tropes: Mafia Romance (2) // Mafia Romance Readathon TBR

Here I go again, recommending you with my favorite trope forever — MAFIA ROMANCE. I posted my first mafia romance recommendation years ago and if you’re interested to check it, click here.  Since I’ll be joining Mafia Romance Readathon this weekend ( hosted by Jenn @ The Book Refuge, Jess @ Peace Love Books , Jessen @ Jessen Reads Romance, Tori @ Novel Life, Tiffany @  neverlandpixy)

I thought I’ll come up with more list of mafia books / series that I enjoyed for the past two years. Of course, I’ll put the darkness level / trigger warnings because there’s a lot of themes here that might make you uncomfortable.

Lord of London Town by Tillie Cole (Adley Firm #1)

Cheska Harlow-Wright was born into a life of luxury and privilege. She has never wanted for anything. A comfortable future as a married London socialite ⁣
awaits her. But since the age of thirteen, Cheska has harboured a secret—an unshakeable fixation on a boy who could never offer her anything close to ⁣comfort. A boy steeped in sin and draped in depravity. A boy born into the possessive embrace of darkness. ⁣

When Cheska’s seemingly perfect world is ripped apart by an unknown but deadly enemy, there’s only one person she can run to. One person in the world ⁣who has the power to keep her safe. The one person her weak and shattered heart craves. ⁣

Arthur Adley. The new head of the most feared crime family in London. ⁣

Forced too young to take the helm of the Adley firm, Arthur has become even more ruthless, formidable, and cold than ever before. His enemies are circling, and he must fight—and kill—to maintain his family’s place at the top of the London crime underworld. There is no room for weakness, emotion, or loss of control.⁣

But then Cheska smashes back into his life with the force of a wrecking ball. She has no place in this dark, vicious, and bloodthirsty world. And worse, she is the solitary chink in his impenetrable armour. He’s already pushed her away once, but this time she desperately needs him. She’s broken, lost, and in danger, and he is the only one who can help.⁣

Arthur must protect her. He must destroy those who dare to threaten her, hunt down those who would take what is his. He would raze all of London to the ⁣ground to keep her safe… but can he also protect himself?⁣

The infamous Dark Lord of London Town faces his most brutal battle yet—the crippling weight of the past, the unrelenting enemies lurking in the shadows… and the havoc that Cheska’s presence is wreaking on the granite fortress that was once his heart.⁣

Trigger warning: Violence, Gore, Profanity, Murder // Darkness Level: Moderate – High // Series Status: On going

  • One of the most intense mafia series I have ever read. Complex characters and solid plot line. There is a lot to look forward to. The twist and turns are unexpectedly great. Definitely a page turner. Check out my full review here.

Gangsters of New York by Bella Di Corte

Machiavellian is the first of three books set in the savage world of the Gangsters of New York series.

I hungered to be seen.

There were three things I knew about Capo Macchiavello:

He was gorgeous.
He was reclusive.
He was considered one of New York’s most savage animals.

And he wanted me as his wife. A simple arrangement – you do for me, I do for you. Nothing owed, no expectations. Except for one: never leave.

Life was never that simple, though. By the age of twenty-one, I was parentless, jobless, and homeless, and I had come to learn the hard way that nothing was ever free. Even kindness comes with strings.

Capo might’ve been the only man to ever see me, but I had made a vow to myself: I would never owe anyone anything. Most of all, the man I called boss.

I killed to stay hidden.

Mariposa Flores thought she owed nothing to no one, but she owed everything…to me, the ghost the world had once called The Machiavellian Prince of New York.

Trigger warning: Violence, Gore, Assault , Murder // Darkness Level: Moderate  // Series Status: On going

  • This is a recent favorite and many thanks to Sissy (@booknerdingout) for recommending this to me. It’s an Italian – Irish mafia romance companion series. There’s a precedent series for this one (The Fausti Family series) which I’ll dive in soon. However, you may jump into this and it won’t affect anything. I love the mafia realm here is interconnected with each other and there’s a lot of conflict.

Tainted Hearts series by Lylah James

Cold. Ruthless. Killer. I am respected and feared by all.

I wasn’t put on this earth to love or be loved. I was put here to wipe out every last member of the damn Abandonato mafia, to pay them back for my mother’s death.

When I find a strange girl hiding, beaten, under my bed, I don’t let her live out of compassion. She’s a trinket, my plaything.

I thought Alessio was only one more man who wanted to use me, hurt me, and throw me away. I don’t know what it is to trust anymore. I can’t find my heart under the pain.

Alessio found it. He touched it, and brought it alive again.

But if he discovers just how dangerous I am to him…I’ll lose my life.

Trigger warning: Violence, Rape, Kidnapping, Drugs, Sexual Assault, Murder // Darkness Level: High  // Series Status: On going

  • I discovered this series last year because I got the first book for free on Amazon and I enjoyed it despite of its dark theme. The first three books features Ayla and Alessio and the succeeding two books features a different couple. You have to read the series in chronological order to fully understand the plot line.

Scarred Souls series by Tillie Cole

To take back life, one must first face death…

One man stripped of his freedom, his morals…his life.

Conditioned in captivity to maim, to kill and to slaughter, prisoner 818 becomes an unremorseful, unrivaled and unstoppable fighter in the ring. Violence is all he knows. Death and brutality are the masters of his fate.

After years of incarceration in an underground hell, only one thought occupies his mind: revenge…bloody, slow and violent revenge.

Revenge on the man who lied.

Revenge on the man who wronged him.

Revenge on the man who condemned him and turned him into this: a rage-fueled killing machine. A monster void of humanity; a monster filled with hate.

And no one will stand in the way of getting what he wants.

One woman stripped of her freedom, her morals…her life.

Kisa Volkova is the only daughter of Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, head of the infamous ‘Triad’ bosses of New York’s Russian Bratva. Her life is protected. In reality, it’s a virtual prison. Her father’s savage treatment of his rivals and his lucrative and coveted underground gambling ring—The Dungeon—ensures too many enemies lurk at their door.

She dreams to be set free.

Kisa has known only cruelty and loss in her short life. As manager of her father’s death match enterprise, only grief and pain fill her days. Her mafia boss father, in her world, rules absolute. And her fiancé, Alik Durov, is no better; the Dungeon’s five-time champion, a stone-cold killer, the treasured son of her father’s best friend, and her very own—and much resented—personal guard. Unrivaled in both strength and social standing, Alik controls every facet of Kisa’s life, dominates her every move; keeps her subdued and dead inside…then one night changes everything.

While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget…for both their sakes.

But when weeks later, out of the blue and to her complete surprise, he’s announced as the replacement fighter in The Dungeon, Kisa knows she’s in a whole lot of trouble. He’s built, ripped and lethally unforgiving to his opponents, leaving fear in his wake and the look of death in his eyes.

Kisa becomes obsessed with him. Yearns for him. Craves his touch. Needs to possess this mysterious man…this man they call Raze.

Trigger warning: Violence, Drugs, Assault, Taboo // Darkness Level: Moderate – High // Series Status: Completed

  • This is my first venture to Tillie Cole’s books. Russian mafia + MMA fighters (tortured heroes). I love the dark gritty vibe it gave me and it’s worth the obsession. I have yet to finish the final book. I’m distracted with others lol.

Mafia Royals series by Rachel Van Dyken

A mafia romance about best friends turned enemies by Rachel Van Dyken, the number one New York Times bestselling author of the Eagle Elite series.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend…
I never thought my father would ask this of me, to become the second generation at Eagle Elite University, to rule with an iron fist, and to take care of anyone who gets in our way.
But ever since the incident.
Ever since Him.
There’s been a war in our little clique.
After all, a house divided cannot stand.
He’s the problem, not me.
He used to kiss me like I was his oxygen.
Now he looks at me like I’m his poison.
But we both drank it, again and again, never believing there would be a day when our love would start a war.
And our friendship would shatter into a million pieces.
Then again, the worst thing you could do in the mafia is hang on to hope that your life will be normal.
The second worse thing?
Fall in love with your best friend.
And heir to the Nicolasi throne.

Trigger warning: Violence, Gore, Profanity // Darkness Level: Light – Moderate // Series Status: On going

  • We have the next generation of characters here but you can read it immediately without reading the Eagle Elite series (which I recommended in my first mafia romance recommendation post). What’s good about this series, they tell their own story without being the shadows of their parents.

The Camorra Chronicles by Cora Reilly

Fabiano was raised to follow in his father’s footsteps as Consigliere of the Chicago Outfit – until the man abandons him. Left to fend for himself, Fabiano is forced to fight for a place in the mafia world. As a ruthless street fighter, he quickly earns his place as the new Enforcer of the Las Vegas Camorra – a man to fear.

Leona wants to build a decent life for herself, away from her drug-addicted mother. But soon she catches the attention of a dangerous man – Fabiano Scuderi. Staying out of trouble and living a normal life are near impossible with a man like him.
Leona knows she needs to avoid Fabiano, but men like him aren’t easy to shake off. They always get what they want.

Fabiano cares about only one thing: the Camorra.
But his attraction to Leona soon puts his unwavering loyalty to the test. Is Leona worth risking everything he’s fought for, and ultimately his life?

Trigger warning: Violence, Gore, Rape,  Profanity // Darkness Level: Light – Moderate // Series Status: On going

  • This is the spin-off series to Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles and I like this series slightly better. My current favorites in the series are books 2 (Nino and Kiara) and 3 (Remo and Serafina).

Mafia Romance Readathon TBR

These are all the mafia books I enjoyed and recommended. I am curious, do you love this trope? What are your favorites? I’d love to hear them and try them as well if you have any recommendations.

  1. I haven’t read any of these mafia romances yet. I’m kind of blanking on ones that I have read. I know there have been some. I have wanted to try Tillie Cole’s since I have liked some of her other books. I’m just always hesitant to get wrapped up in another series. I love how you included your trigger warnings. That was helpful.
