They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true. The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares. He is a brilliant lawyer. A skilled criminal. A beautiful liar. A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.

Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.

She is a starving artist. Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom. Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down. She paid the price.

Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate. That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t. So she hates me. Big fucking deal. She better get used to me.

Vicious is the first book in the Sinners of Saint series. If you’ve read the prequel, we get a brief glimpse of Baron “Vicious” Spencer and Emilia LeBlanc. They were sworn enemies since they’re in high school but they’re mutually attracted with each other.

Vicious grew up in a wealthy family. He’s an entitled, rich asshole who bullies everyone and his favorite target was the daughter of his family’s hired help, Emilia / Millie. I’m up for an asshole hero but I truly can’t stand him. He’s manipulative, disrespectful and vile. He treats Emilia horribly and she didn’t deserved it. It’s his way of getting her attention and when she dated one of his best friends, he did something to make her leave the town.

Ten years later, Millie and Vicious crossed paths again in New York. Vicious became a successful lawyer and one of the founders of an investment firm along with his best friends, Dean Cole, Jaime Followhill and Trent Rexroth. While Emilia is a savvy artist who works as a waitress and struggling financially. Vicious wanted her for a long time and he’ll do everything what it takes to keep her. As the tension between them fired up, Millie can’t hold back her feelings for him. He still loves him even if he’s an asshole and she makes sure he’ll crawl to capture her heart.

The plot was cliché but surprisingly entertaining. The drama was tolerable and popcorn worthy 👀🍿. I enjoyed the angst and the sexual tension between them. Like I mentioned, I’m not a fan of Vicious. His screwed up past made him a cruel guy. It camouflages his weakness so he’ll look tough and strong. However, his actions were unjustifiable and unforgivable in my opinion. Millie’s love for him was big enough to forgive all the things he did. If I were her, I don’t think I’ll fall in love with him. It’s stupid letting herself be manipulated again but I guess they’re meant for each other. She’s the only one who can tame the glorious asshole. Overall, this is a good starter. I am looking forward to the second book.
