Summary (Goodreads):

Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.

They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.

And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

My Review:

I don’t think my heart and eyes could take it if I read another tear jerking / heartbreaking book. Bright Side made me cry.. more of ugly crying. This is the kind of book wherein there is less romance but will touch your heart because of the main character’s story.

The story is a slow start and it might test your patience. I keep waiting for some twist to happen but I decided not to think of it and just go with the flow. For some reason, the slow progress of the story helps me to understand the main character.

Kate Sedgwick is an optimistic character. She spreads all the good vibes despite her reality indeed bites. She never whines on anything no matter how hard life gives her and just do what she has to do. I love her independence and bravery to stand up on anything. In every bright side, there’s always a dark one. Even if Kate tries not to let it eat her up, it chases her. However, you cannot escape the inevitable.

There are two guys in her life, Gus Hawthorne, her long-time best friend and Keller Banks, a guy whom she met at a coffee shop when she stays at Grant for college. I’ve got to say these two guys are impressive in different ways. I love Gus for being a supportive best friend. His and Kate’s relationship are just strong. They’re both quirky together. As for Keller, you can never resist his charms behind his persona, he also have secrets.

The real twist here is in the almost end part of the book. GRAB SOME TISSUES. For the first time, it’s not all about romance. It’s how the main character influenced and touched those people around her and I think it’s beautiful.

Just like Kate says: Do Epic. Ahh.. I just love, Bright Side.
